Giuliopoli is situated in Abruzzo a few kilometers from the border with Molise. for this reason, one is able to visit places of interest in both regions. The terrain contains a myriad of towns and villages, retreats and refuges hills and woods each one with its own places to discover and be charmed by. “The Castle” suggests in the following notes, places to visit and itineraries which they know will help one to understand the spirit of the people of Abruzzo and demonstrate the unbelievable natural beauty of this land. Many visits can be made with the help of expert guides, ( also in foreign languages ).
Giuliopoli lies in the province of Chieti, one of the most picturesque parts of Italy. It extends from the east of the Pescara river to touch with the Trigno; in adjacent Molise, and streches from the mountains to the sea. Having as a background in the south, the Massif of the Majella and finishing in the north with the Adriatic Sea by way of a stretch of hills rich with olive groves, vineyards, villages, burghs and small cities.
Boasting agriculture rich with cereals, olives, grapes and fruits. Still very much alive is the craftsmanship.
Famed for its work fashioned in iron copper and wood, woolens, linen, cotton and ceramics, and production of lace and embroidery. Moreover the province is noted for its folklore. The Abruzzo people love their fables, legends, rites and superstitions of pagan origin, one frequently comes across religious buildings, living proof of the widespread religious feeling ' of the people. Very much in evidence are the christian ceremonies dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Saints. Barbaric Invasions and destruction, earthquakes and plagues caused decadence and poverty in the Middle Ages. The most significant Monument of the period is that of S. Giovanni in Venere near Fossacesia but numerous are the religious Buildings of old and noble origins dating from 1000 until 1300 these centuries represent the vast growth of new buildings restoration and improvements. In the most humble to the most prestigious churches are found all the forms of architecture in Abruzzo, local artists, stone masons from Lombardia and German Masters have left their names on the ornate portals and in the Rose Windows of the façades. In the works of painting there are various masters from every part from Luca di Pallustro of Lanciano to Andrea Delitioof Lecce of Marsi.
To note Nicola da Guardiagrele disciple of Ghiberti , famous for the rich and splendid work in gold which is probabily the most precious heritage of “Abruzzese Art”.
